Indian treats at Little India.

6th December 2005 (Backdated post)
It was my first day of work at SLS. Nothing much to do. So, by the time I knock off, I'm still quite fresh. Annan called me just when I knock off and told me he's comming to SLS to pick up his iPod Video and a Sony digital camera. Brought him to Fatass MengHui's shop and Annan got his stuff with a huge discount. A white 60GB iPod Video and a powerful Sony Digital camera that looks like a grenade launcher with 12X optical zoom. The gadgets were ultra cool and he got both together. What an A.S.K.!

In return for me getting him such good discount (a few hundreds off the listed price), he brought me over to little india for some indian dinner. He brought me to his favourite resturant, a Vegetarian indian resturant.

Madras New Woodlands Resturant. An Indian resturant situated in the heart of little india, serves only vegetarian dishes.

Here's the menu. Everything looks alien to me. Told Annand I'm super hungry, just fill me up and please get me some deserts after the meal. Annand asked for the waiter over. Chatter with him in indian for a while and the waiter left. Soon, the thosai's were up and we started eating. Eaten half way and I remember I've got to take pics for my blog.

That's what I had. A thosai with curry, potatoe and veggies inside. Its crispy at the edge and soft in the centre. The sauce and gravy served together make it superlicious. I like the Chick Peas in curry too. Annand ordered another thosai for me. I forgot what is it, its a super crispy thosai filled with ghee.(not pictured because they taste so good and they're gone before I remember to take pics) This oily thosai is super crispy with cheesey flavour all over it. Imagine a Cheese prata which is thin, fragrant and crispy. Shiok but evil as ghee is 100% fat.

And you got to check out their special drink. The Lassi. We ordered a Mango Lassi, in the end, Noraini was hogging it to herself because its simply good!
This a super, thick Mango drink. It's a slurry of mango pulp, juice and alot of sugar. The pair of throtters behind are Noraini's. Super shiok to drink on a hot sweaty afternoon after some workout.

And the deserts for the day. I'm sorry I don't remember their names but these stuff are superb. Ultra sweet! A bit too sweet for me. I'll try to explain them to you based on my observations with my poor language.

This is a crispy cookie soaked in syrup. Its sweet, crispy and fragrant. It looks oily, but it don't taste so. The sweetness is just nice, I like.

This is a milky cookie. Its sweet and have a thick milky flavour. Imagine Rabbit brand milk candy concentrated. Its crunchy but too sweet for me. A little bit is enough.

This looks like a preserved longan but its a dough ball soaked in super thick sugar syrup. It is so soaked that syrup is oozing out everytime your spoon makes contact with the ball. Tastes just sweet, the sweetness just overwhelms everything you tongue feels. (basically the sweetest thing I had ever tasted)

This dinner had been an eye opener for me. Didn't knew indians have such sweet tooth until this experience. Really nice resturant with really friendly waiters and great service. Thanks Annand for the dinner and Wikipdia for the links explaining ghee and lassi.
