YeLiu - 22 Apr 2006

Hi guys, sorry for the late post. been behaving too lazy recently.
Had worked around a way to fix the photo uploading fault. uploaded my pics and now I shall tell u about my trip to YehLiu GeoPark.

YehLiu Geopark is located on the North-Eastern coast of Taiwan Island. It is made up of Limestone, Calcium carbonate, on the top layer, which is more resistant to erosion and weathering compared to other types of rocks lying below. After millions of years of exposure to the salty wind, seawater and strong waves of the great Pacific Ocean, erosions and weathering created many wierd structures out of the limestone formation. This group of extremely beautifully weathered structures made up the world class tourist attraction of Yehliu today.

We took a bus to KeeLung and transfered to another bus leading us there. It was a sunny saturday morning which makes the weather perfect for visiting such a beautiful GeoPark.

The town surrounding Yehliu is a fishing port and this is what greeted us when we alighted the bus.

The beautiful blue sea and a quiet fishing port town.

Greetings from YehLiu GeoPark!

Due to tectonic plate movements, the seafloor was raised above sea level, exposing these beautiful structures made by mother nature.

I'm here! (acting cool and whistling~)

The clear waters in small lagoons. In these small lagoons, small little crabs, fishes and sea lice can be seen busying about their daily routines.

A big, golden coloured Sea Cockroach (what the locals call them) spotted!

Mushroom rock, created by different layering of rocks and different rate of erosion and weathering.

Dave from Team Mushroom reporting from Mushroom rock.

Group shot under the shades of the giant rock mushroom.

A bed of mushrooms...

This mushroom head was splitted into half by erosion.

Potholes are formed on the seabed by erosion and when the seabed is raised, these potholes are on ground level now. The water inside is seawater filled by the occasional giant waves and tides. Algae grew and mini-ecosystems are formed within these potholes. Small fishes, crabs and sea lice lived in them.

Closed up of a flower crab within a pothole.

Candle rocks, formed by uneven weathering.

Mini ecosystem within each candle.

Fault lines on the rocks are enlarged by erosion causing this enlarged fault line.

No particular name for this. I shall name it the 1 Scoop Ice Cream Rock!

These waves breaking on the rocks reminds me of the retro made in China TV drama, "Journey to the West" with "六小玲童".

Icon of YehLiu. The Queen's Head. This is a mushroom rock disintegrated by weathering, forming the Queen's Head.

I touched the Queen's chin! Yeah!!

A cliff with a tower overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Toufu rocks, obvious by the look. Formed by fault lines, erosion and raised seafloor.

Climbed up the cliff and saw this island within the misty Pacific Ocean - Turtle Island.

Looking down Pacific Ocean from the top of the cliff.

Different layers within the rock.

The Sun is good, the Ocean is beautiful, the pig shall bask.

2 beautiful Sea cliffs specially for Lizard Pan.

The crystal clear waters with rich pinkish Coralline Algae, little corals and Turbo snails! A marine aquarist's dream!

And... my camera was starved dead after I took this last pic... ARGH!!! This had to happened!! But, anyway, I had shot most of what I wanted to show. Only a few more left to be seen. My pictures are of lousy quality, please pardon my amaturish phototaking skills. But, this place is EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL! My pictures are not giving it due credits! Please visit it if you've got the chance. (And if you do visit it, please remember to remove your rubbish as you leave this beautiful place. There's too much inconsiderate tourist around whom had left a lot of plastics and rubbish lying around, polluting the sea and all... )

After spending half a day there, I know I will be back for more! This place is simply irresistable!
I'll be back!
Cheers!

Laptop down and sandstorm from Mainland China!

Tues nite, was surfing the net and chatting on msn when my laptop suddenly shuts down...
I tried to restart it and only the cooling fan works, the rest not responding...

No respond after 2000000 tries! Laptop is DEAD!!

SIAN... -> Depression sets in... how to survive the nights without my laptop!

Wed morning found the fujitsu service center near my office. Send it in for servicing after work... and the service people told me that it looks like my motherboard is damaged and its gonna cost a bomb to fix and will take another 2 weeks for the parts to be flown in... But they cant confirm anything until the fujitsu engineer comes in on thurs morning to see it... haiz... deeper depressed.... Beginning of long lonely nites... how to survive?

Go back to hostel, called home and tell them I wont be online at nite for another 2 weeks... and camped myself in front of the TV. luckily they're replaying the AC vs Barca match. Watched the full match, nice, exciting game... Kaka and Ronaldinho rocks! heng ah! its already midnight after the match... ok la, time to sleep... tmw nite's boredom will be dealt with tmw...

Thurs morning (today)... fujitsu engineer called at 9+, (wow! they're very effective!) told me one of my RAM slot is spoilt and if I wan it to be repaired, I got to change the entire motherboard and they'll get me a quotation from singapore. It'll cost at least NT$10K (S$500) and takes at least 2 weeks for the replacement. In the mean time, I can use the laptop with 1 RAM plug out.

Ok lor, I ask for my laptop back and let them get me a quotation...
After work, went to collect my laptop, met the friendly (and cute) engineer, she commented its not worth to change the motherboard, just hang on with the 1 RAM slot left and wait to buy a new one when I save enough... hmm... she makes sense! So I shall survive with 256Mb less RAM!

Now, I realised how reliant I am on the internet and my laptop... Really too reliant on them. If one day the computers were to take over this world, I'm one of the first victims they'll claim... SHIT!

Just now during dinner in the canteen, TV news reported that a sandstorm from northen china had hit taipei. reporting away on the poor visibility and health problem... I was sitting in front of the TV eating and thinking... hanah! hanah! where got so serious, I whole day in office also didnt hear anyone complain...

Then I came back into my room, and the floor feels sandy... I put my things on my desk, and the table feels sandy too... hmm? so serious meh? I asked my taiwanese roomie... He said, nothing la, just an indication we got to clean our room!

ok lor, since my lady luck treat me so good today, I shall do some good by cleaning up my space... Seems like the sandstorm is real man! my cleaning water was brownish after cleaning. My usual cleaning water is grey or black, but this time it is Reddish Brown with alot of sandy residue!

The sandstorm is indeed here! The desert is expending! Makes me guilty that I had not been doing much in my part for environmental preservation. Global warming and all sorts of environment problem is causing the desert in mainland china to expand and cause such serious sandstorm! ok ok! shall cut down on green house gases release starting from now!

BE ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY! Love the Earth! There's only one!

Here's proof that the sandstorm was indeed here!

Look at the cleaning water, can you see the brownish tinge?

here, the colour is more prominent. brown is the colour of sand from desert...

Sand residue after pouring away the water... Usually not so much residue when I do my cleaning... today got more residue...

Close up on the residue, can you see the sand?

Save the Earth! Stop releasing greenhouse gases! Don't smoke! Don't burp! Don't fart!

Taiwan Straits

Last Saturdaywas rainy, so our hiking trip was cut short. But the rain jus stopped when we reach Danshui MRT, preparing to return to hostel.
We decided that such a trip shouldn't be waste and took the boat across DanShui river to the town opposite, Bali, 八里.

As it was a wet morning, most of the shops in Bali was closed and there's nothing interesting to take photos. Most of Bali are cycling tracks and mangrove rainforest.

After walking for about 2 hours towards the rivermouth of Dan shui, we came to the left bank of Dan Shui river mouth. On my right is the Dan Shui river mouth and on my left is the open sea of Taiwan Straits. The view of Taiwan Straits is spectacular.

Dan Shui town from opposite bank.

Fisherman's Wharf and Valentine's bridge from opposite bank. (The black patch is a sand bar created to prevent flooding and its visible at low tide now)

The spectacular Taiwan Straits from the river mouth of Dan Shui river.

Took out my MP3 player and played the song, 大海 by 张雨生.

Standing on the breakwater in admiration of Taiwan sea. Beautiful...

Wonder how beautiful it will be on the east coast of Taiwan? The beach facing the Pacific Ocean... I'll be there!

Changing over parade at CKS Memorial hall

I was at CKS (Chang Kai Siek) Memorial hall with my family last week and we managed to catch the Guards Of Honour changing over parade. This is the short performance I manage to capture with my camera.

My house

Did a test online drawing my house.
The analysis sounds 75% accurate to me. What do you think?
here's the Link.

What did i drew? A fish pond in front of my left full length windows on my ground floor. Right full length window got a patch with grass and flowers. A garage for 2 cars. A viewing balacony on top with another garden above my garage.

From here, I had shown my love for fishes, water, nature, sceneries and cars.

淡水 & 笔架山 - 01-02 Apr 2006

Oops... sorry I hadn't blogged for a long time. Been meeting taiwanese friends and going hiking. And for the last week, my family visited me for 1 week and I brought them around taipei. Really enjoyed myself with them. My family rocks!

anyway, here's some pics from my 淡水 and hiking trip 2 weekends ago. enjoy~

淡水MRT station. The building got this european colony feeling because Taiwan used to be a colony by europeans long ago and they left alot behind after they left. 淡水 is one of the sites where most of these artifects are concentrated because of its strategic position in naval defence of the island. 淡水 is also known for its fishing ports and scenic views of the river banks. I love the scenic view of this laid back town. Really beautiful and peaceful. A nice place to bring your loved one to for a short, quiet and romantic getaway.

My 1st point when I reached. loosely translated as little white house, it is not related to that one in USA in anyway. This used to be where the european customs officer live and work when they were here. Nothing much there, just a beautiful white building and a view to kill.

Next stop, a fort left behind by the Qing government. This is a Chinese fort with 4 cannons designed by a German engineer. Sadly, the cannons are looted and what's left is the empty fort with some rock carvings.

The site where one of the cannons used to stand.

Next stop, 红毛城 loosely translated as "red hair city" a place where foreign ambassadors used to live in taiwan under Past Governments.

A shot with the beautiful rivermouth behind.

Is this where Ang Mohs used to shit?

Image hosting by Photobucket
GuanYin Mountains on the opposite bank. From this view, you can see GuanYin's face from the left as if she is lying on the river.

The Tea Garden where Ang Moh used to enjoy their high tea session...

Next up, 淡水 fishing port, this used to be the biggest fishing port in Taiwan, but now it is developed into a tourist attraction with few fishing vessels still stopping by. There's baskers, seafood resturants, more eateries and the Beautiful Valentine's Bridge.

Just enjoy the pictures...

Beautiful isn't it? This is a really romantic place to bring your loved ones to.

While leaving, we saw some newbie singer is holding a free concert by the bridge.

The next morning, we went on a hiking trip onto one of the peaks of 笔架山- Pen Stand mountains. It's 700m high and took us about 3 hours to reach the peak.
